Roman  Caps and Minuscules | Beyond the Basics

Sheila and Julian will use a different workshop format this time. We will not split into two classes for the week, as is usually done. Instead, everyone will work as one group. Julian and Sheila will team-teach everyone together, with a step by step approach to capitals and minuscules, from fundamental principles, then moving on to more complex, playful and subtle forms, first developing pen lettering that is clear and legible and later delving into refined, expressive and textural work and applying more advanced techniques.

The single large group format avoids the problems of Group A starting on basics while Group B starts with advanced issues, and then has to go "backwards" to basics for the 2nd half of the week. Instead we can all take the journey together, everyone working on the same things through the week.

Demos will be done by both Julian and Sheila, taking turns for the whole group, and both instructors scampering about the room helping everyone individually as needed, all through the week. The interaction between them and the whole group will be informative, challenging, entertaining and fun. The upstairs space will be used for slides, displaying samples, more demos, print displays, yoga, ping pong, bowling, square dancing etc.
