This workshop will demonstrate a simple and very flexible collage technique that allows the calligrapher to achieve rich effects of color and layering.  The techniques are derived from traditional Chinese and Arabic paper techniques and yield an excellent writing surface.  The results are invariably stunning and the process highly enjoyable.

Note: As with Brody’s class, all students will do both classes, ie: mornings with one teacher and afternoons with the other.

Alice
Contemporary Award & Certificate Design

Alice will present her approach to the calligraphic award / certificate /document, which many calligraphers are commissioned to do. Participants will work on layout & design, paper & inks/ gouache, combining different hands and the creative use of simple, pen-made illustrations /decorations. The ideas and techniques presented by Alice apply to all calligraphic work, and not just awards/ documents.
