Color/Paper Drop Spine Decorative Binding During the week we will work on two related techniques:Decorative paper 1 --2 days Neither paste paper nor marble paper, we will use all colors possible: gouache, water color, and ink & dye for leather and paper like Kraft, tissue, Japanese, Mohawk, Arches or anything that you have. (Not really thick paper) The decorative papers can be used as end papers or/and the cover. The rest of the week, we will do the Drop-spine binding, (similar to the drum leaf) but it will be done on a book that students have already prepared, i.e. a paper back, a sewn book or a pack of single sheets that we can fan-glue in class. Use of leather, cloth, fabric or paper for the spine and paper / cloth or fabric for the boards. Students should arrive with a book ready to cover unless they have single sheets that they want to glue in class. Bring colors, cotton balls (that do not leave fuzzy particles), disposable rubber gloves, (a lot) paper and all your tools for bookbinding. |
